150 Years of Growth. 100 Hours of Carving. Grace Rising Above the Waves.
A Masterpiece of Time In the high-altitude mountains, the rare Small Leaf Boxwood grows agonizingly slowly—barely one centimeter (0.4 inches) every decade. Reaching the required density for this carving, the wood represents over 150 years of slow, patient growth.
We call this "The Dragon-Riding Goddess" (Guan Yin). While standard icons of Avalokiteśvara are typically seated upon a lotus throne, this particular Loong-Riding rendition possesses an extraordinary and miraculous origin. On June 19, 1973, as a U.S. Air Force aircraft flew over Taipei to document hurricane cloud formations, it unexpectedly captured a crystal-clear photograph of Avalokiteśvara. In the image, the Bodhisattva was seen holding the Sacred Willow Vase, treading upon a Green Loong with a countenance of profound compassion. Shortly after this manifestation, Taiwan gradually ushered in an era of peace and witnessed a period of rapid economic prosperity.
Key Features
-
Unmatched Texture (The "Porcelain" of Woods) The texture of this rare wood is legendary. Because of its extreme density, it has almost no visible grain. It feels as cool and smooth as fine porcelain or polished marble. It is a tactile experience that plastic or resin can never replicate.
-
A Living Heirloom (The Patina) This is an interactive art piece. As time passes, the wood will react to the air and your touch, naturally deepening from a pale cream into a rich, golden-amber vintage tone. The longer you keep it, the more beautiful it becomes.
-
Gold painting Craftsmanship The delicate gold tracing on the robes and Loong scales is applied by hand, creating a stunning contrast against the creamy wood tone. It signifies dignity and adds a layer of regal luxury to the intricate carving.
-
Symbol of "Quiet Power" In Eastern philosophy, Guan Yin standing on the Loong (Yulong Guanyin) represents the ultimate power of compassion to navigate and tame the waves of chaos. This goddess represents the power to rise above life's challenges with grace and calm.
